[origin: EP0814562A1] The method involves using an oscillator which includes a NAND logical gate connected in series with two inverters, the output from the last inverter being applied to one of the input terminals of the gate. The inverters (14,15) include modules which have a variable delay between the input signal and the output signal. A control signal (EN) is applied to the second input of the logical gate. When the control signal has the value 0, the gate output is 1 and the output from the first inverter is 0. Consequently, the output from the second inverter is 1 and the gate output remains 1. The system is stable and there are no oscillations. If however the control signal has a value of 1 the two inverters will give a different output signal with a time delay (tau) which in turn generates oscillations in the system.
