[origin: DE19507395A1] Described is a device for joining together cylindrical tobacco articles fitted with filters or mouthpieces of non-circular cross-section and assembled so that they are axially aligned in groups, the groups being joined by winding glue-coated strips around them. The device has a rotating drum (29) with parallel suction troughs (59) designed to hold the groups, a rotating surface (62) around the periphery of the drum and a stationary surface (54) which, together with the rotating surface, forms a channel (67) along which the groups of articles roll. The surface (62) of the drum (29) and the stationary surface (54) have corrugated cross-sections which correspond to the non-circular shape of the groups of articles (52) rolling along the channel (67). Designing the channel (67) in this way ensures that the central axis (M) of the groups of articles moves along a circular path (68) about the axis (69) of the drum as the groups of articles roll. The rolling operation is thus carried out in such a way that the articles are handled as gently as possible.
