[origin: EP0816219A2] The lifting keel (21) of a sailing boat or yacht at least partially surrounds a fixed section of the keel (11) and can be moved in its longitudinal direction, usually vertically. The lifting keel is sub-divided by webs (23) running transverse to the direction of travel into one or several chambers (28). The fixed keel, projecting onwards from the bottom of the craft, consists of hollow sections corresponding to the number and shape of the chambers of the lifting keel. The keel shaft (4) may project upwards as far as the deck of the craft as a maximum.
