A pyrotechnic composition generating clean gases for a vehicle safety device contains 1-6 wt.% of an oxygenated organic binder, 50-95 wt.% of ammonium nitrate and 0.5-5 wt.% of a light metal such as boron or aluminium.

La présente invention se rapporte au domaine des compositions pyrotechniques destinées à la sécurité automobile. Les compositions selon l'invention contiennent : entre 1 et 6% en poids de liant oxygéné, entre 50 et 95% en poids de nitrate d'ammonium, entre 0 et 30% en poids de perchlorate de potassium, entre 0 et 15% en poids d'un composé azoté comme le perchlorate d'ammonium, l'hexogène ou l'octogène, entre 0,5 et 5% en poids de bore ou d'aluminium. Préférentiellement le nitrate d'ammonium est un nitrate d'ammonium stabilisé et le liant est un liant souple choisi parmi les liants polyépoxy et polyacryliques. Les compositions selon l'invention conviennent bien pour les générateurs pyrotechniques de gaz propres et non toxiques destinés à gonfler des coussins de protection pour occupants d'un véhicule automobile.
