[origin: EP0817147A1] A variety of alarm devices (ME) responsive to contact, movement (BM) or fire (RM) incorporate transceivers (SE) with cordless telephone links (DU) to a master operating and indicating unit (BEA) which has a similar link with the public network (ON) and a distant control centre (Z). The connection to the public network is made through a cordless telephone (ST) with the DECT standard and the centre can interrogate the individual devices to ascertain their status.
