[origin: DE19512349C1] The invention pertains to a tool (30) for releasing a key (40) that axially secures a shank (22) of a cutter (20) in a bore of a cutter holder in a coal cutting machine, road grooving machine or the like. The key (40) can be controllably released when a coupling element (35) of the tool has at least one projection which is inserted into a tool holding fixture in the key and the coupling element is attached at a joint (33) to a lever (34) which can be supported on the cutter holder, the cutter or another machine component by means of a support element (39) which is situated at a distance from the joint.
