[origin: WO9724542A1] A valve releases fluid from a high pressure source to a low pressure receiver and includes a housing (301) having a first cavity (312), a second cavity (313), an annular interior sealing surface (318), an elastomeric ring (303), a poppet (302) and an actuator (304) for controlling the poppet's axial movement disposed coaxially within the housing (301). The poppet has a substantially cylindrical side wall, forming an external sealing surface (317). The poppet has fluid channels (310) for channeling fluid from the first cavity (312) radially outward through at least one orifice (311) in the side wall. When closed, the elastomeric ring (303) contacts the exterior sealing surface (317) and the interior sealing surface (318) sealing the first cavity (312) from the second cavity (313). When open, the orifice (311) is disposed relative to the elastomeric ring (303) such that fluid exiting the orifice deforms the elastomeric ring (303) outwardly forming a gap (314).
