[origin: EP0820824A1] An electromagnetic brake for a continuous casting installation comprises: (a) in relation to the mould, a magnetic field divided at least into top and bottom fields; and (b) magnets having a central core (8, 9) which on the mould side is divided at least into a top core (15, 16) for the top magnetic field and a bottom (13, 14) core for the bottom magnetic field.
