Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0823332A1] A thermal transfer ribbon, with (a) a base, (b) a first thermal transfer layer containing a luminescent pigment (I) on one side of the base, and (c) a second thermal transfer layer containing a non-luminescent pigment (II) over layer (b). The reflectance spectrum of (II) shows a peak or a rising slope in the wavelength range of the light emitted by (I), and other layers may be interposed between (a) and (b) and/or (b) and (c). Preferably (I) is a daylight fluorescent pigment, preferably emitting in the orange to red range, and (II) is a coloured pigment, preferably red. The binders for layers (b) and (c) comprise a mixture of hydrocarbon wax and/or ester wax with ethylene/vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer and/or hydrocarbon resin. Layers (b) and (c) have thicknesses of 2-5 mu and 1-3.5 mu respectively.
