[origin: EP0823721A1] An outer envelope (6) connects a hollow principal moving contact (3) within the chamber (1) to a parallel principal moving contact (5) outside the chamber. The insulator (7) supports the external moving contact (5) and lies above the internal fixed contact (2) which passes through its centre. A mechanism (10) controls the sequence of opening and closing the contacts. Within the chamber, the exterior diameter of the moving contact is greater than that of the fixed contact. A blower magnetic field to rotate the arc is created by a coaxial coil around the fixed contact such that the insulator lies behind the coil. The chamber is filled with sulphur VI fluoride under pressure or at atmospheric pressure.
