[origin: DE19608785C1] The invention concerns a refuse container which is made of plastics material, has the approximate shape of an upright cylinder, and comprises a lid (10) which is pivotably mounted on an edge of the container via a hinge arrangement (16). The hinge arrangement (16) comprises at least one cylindrical sleeve (34) which is mounted on the lid (10) and has an axially parallel slot (36) in the sleeve wall. The hinge arrangement (16) also comprises at least one shaft (42, 44, 46) which is mounted on the container (12), lies within the sleeve, holds the sleeve rotatably and comprises at least two portions (44, 46) which - with a substantially cylindrical initial shape - comprise axially parallel flattened sections or recesses (48, 50) which are mutually offset in the peripheral direction.
