[origin: WO9731341A1] The invention relates to apparatus for separating and sorting of bank notes with a feeding shaft (1) and conveyor means for separated bank notes (2). Said conveyor means comprises continuous, parallel, circulating conveyor belts (4, 5). One of the two continuous conveyor belts (4, 5) is returned by way of a diverting/ deflection roller (8). The continuing top continuous conveyor belt (4) is diverted upwards from a substantially horizontal direction of motion. A reversibly-driven sorting roller (9) is arranged in the path of conveying the bank notes so as to be adjacent, in the direction of conveyance, the diverting or deflection roller (8) for the returned continuous conveyor belt. Said sorting roller (9) conveys the bank notes further when driven in the direction of conveyance of the top continuous conveyor belt (4), and when driven in the opposite direction diverts and deposits the bank notes in a pit or container (14) below the path of movement of the top continuous belt (4). At least two reversibly-driven sorting rollers (9) are arranged in the direction of conveyance of the top continuous conveyor belt (4).
