Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0825636A2] The lamp has an elongated discharge tube (2) with a central region (3) enclosing a discharge vol. and two end regions extending in diametrically opposite directions. One end region is formed by a constriction (4) with two broad sides (8) and two narrow sides (9). A pair of electrodes (5) extends into the discharge vol. from the constriction and is connected to external current leads (14) via metal foil (12) embedded in the constriction. The discharge vol. contains a light emitting filling and the length of each constriction corresp. approximately to the length of the central region. The dimensions of the constriction are selected so that the total width of each broad side is less than or equal to 2.2 times its thickness.
