A coating arrangement for directly or indirectly applying a liquid or paste-form coating medium (4) to a moving web of material (6), especially paper or paperboard includes at least one movable device (16,18) which determines the coating width on an applicator roll or opposing roll (2) and/or on the web material. The device (16,18) is mounted so as to be capable of stepped or oscillating movement in a direction perpendicular to the direction of web travel. Also claimed is a coating process which employs the arrangement.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Auftragwerk zum direkten oder indirekten Auftragen eines flüssigen oder pastösen Streichmediums (4) auf eine laufende Materialbahn (6), insbesondere aus Papier oder Karton, umfassend wenigstens eine verstellbare Streichrandbegrenzungseinrichtung (16, 18) zur Einstellung einer Strichbreite auf einer Auftrag- oder Gegenwalze (2) und/oder der laufenden Materialbahn (6), wobei die Streichrandbegrenzungseinrichtung (16 18) in einer im wesentlichen quer zur laufenden Materialbahn (6) liegenden Richtung schrittweise oder stetig beweglich angeordnet ist. <IMAGE>
