[origin: EP0826846A2] The beam accommodates compression or shear forces in a building structure. The building structure is interrupted by a gap or is connected to another building structure, e.g. in balcony structures separated from internal structures by thermal insulation. Preferably a cantilevered panel (1) is connected to a structure (2), e.g. of reinforced concrete, by a compression plate (4) having supporting face components normal to shear and compression forces. The plate is inclined to the shear force direction. It can be angled, having a steep lower portion and a flat upper portion, and may be toothed and or have a rough, profiled surface.
