[origin: GB2328051A] A counting and batching apparatus has counting means for counting individual articles passing through a passageway, wherein the counting means comprises: an array of photodiodes arranged across one side of the passageway; one or more lasers located on the other side of the passageway and arranged to illuminate the array of photodiodes; and processing means responsive to the outputs of the photodiodes to indicate the passage of individual articles. The apparatus typically receives seeds from a separating and sequencing device.
