[origin: WO9636295A1] To allow treatment of inaccessible areas of the teeth, in particular the interdental areas, a dental instrument is proposed with a chucking section (1) for mounting the instrument in a holding device, and with a treatment section (5) for treating a tooth, dental prosthesis or the like. Between the chucking section (1) and treatment section (5) the instrument has an angled transitional region. The treatment section (5) is conical or wedge-shaped and the lateral surfaces of the wedge-shaped instrument are either only lightly roughed or partially diamond-coated, or alternatively are provided with a vulcanised rubber sleeve coated with polishing powder.
