[origin: EP0831049A2] A yarn feed mechanism has a damped spring (S) acting on the sensor units (19, 19') of a non-contact yarn sensor at the yarn store body (15) with the yarn coils. The sensor units pivot on an axis (28') between an inner position (B) and an outer position (A), with the spring pressure applied towards the outer position (A). Preferably the spring (S) has a slightly increasing and preferably generally horizontal spring characteristic, at least within the distortion zone between the outer and inner positions (A, B). The spring (S) is a coiled leg spring with several coiled windings (29) round the swing axes (28') of the sensors (19, 19'), with a free projecting leg (31). An axis bolt (28) is within the spring coils (29). At least one spring support leg (30) is attached to the yarn store body, from one end of the spring coils (29) away from the free projecting leg (31).
