[origin: EP0832758A2] The method involves feeding printed sheets (3) into a stitching unit which has at least one stitcher with a first (5) and second (6) driven sewing needle to form two seams on the spine of the inner book. A saddle-type, clocked, driven stitching table contains an outlet of a gas pipe (18) connected to a pressure source, and directed at a section of the binding thread forming an open loop (21), and at the track along which the second sewing needle moves. Two guide pieces (23) form a guide and are on both sides of a plane formed through the stitching needles.
