[origin: EP0833059A2] The method uses a turbo compressor to compress a gas, which is at constant pressure and temperature, and variable mass flow rate, to a constant final pressure. With maximum mass flow rate the gas reaches final pressure during a main compression stage. With reduced mass flow rate, the gas is fed from main compression into secondary compression, compressed to final pressure, and then supplied for further processing. The gas is available at cryogenic temperatures and is compressed cold. The gas pressure is at underpressure levels, between the boiling point of the gas and atmospheric pressure. Main compression is multi-stage and secondary compression has a turbo compressor stage.
