Process for treating (non)-alloyed Fe melts comprises adding at least one substance to change the morphology of the carbon present in the melt. The novelty is that the substance is a particulate material comprising partially oxidic components, and is distributed in the melt. Also claimed is an apparatus for carrying out the process comprising a vessel (10) containing the melt and a hollow lance (18) connected to a source (12) for a stream of gaseous carrier with suspended oxidic particles, esp. basic metal oxide, in it.

Zur Behandlung von legierten oder unlegierten Eisenschmelzen durch Zusatz mindestens eines Stoffes, der eine Veränderung der Morphologie des in der Schmelze enthaltenen Kohlenstoffs bewirkt, wird anstelle des hierfür bekannten metallischen Magnesiums mindestens ein feinteiliges, mindestens teilweise oxidisches Material, vorzugsweise ein basisches Metalloxid, insbesondere Magnesiumoxid, verwendet und dieses in der Schmelze verteilt. Dadurch kann die Herstellung von Gussstahl oder Gusseisen mit vorteilhafter und z.B. kugelförmiger Struktur des als Graphit im Eisengefüge eingelagerten Kohlenstoffs erzielt werden. <IMAGE>
