[origin: GB2302941A] A heating system has a common boiler supplying heated water to hot water stores 48 in respective apartments or offices, the stores being used to heat tap water and to provide circulating water for central heating. In each apartment, sensors provide store controller 40 with the temperature of the boiler water, the room and the water in the store, and controller 40 operates boiler water valves and the central heating pump, and sends requests for more heat to boiler-operating central controller 45 via bus 42. Controller 40 also calculates heat usage, and is connected to to prepayment unit 50 which allows credit to be provided. Hand held unit 56 allows authorised access to controller 40 and unit 55.
