The ring is made of a U-shaped piece of metal bent into the shape of an open shank (2), with free end faces (6,7) to form a setting for a gemstone (3). Each end face has an aperture (8), and at least one aperture contains a locking element (14) to fix the gemstone in place. The element is formed by a cap-like projection, and the gemstone has a corresponding holder (6) for the element. The open shank is made of steel.
