Abstract (en)
The dual purpose camera comprises an optical exposure system for exposing to a scene unexposed film loaded in the camera to produce a latent image in the film. An electronic image capture system produces an electronic image from an image on processed film loaded in the camera. The electronic image capture system includes a line scanner which produces the electronic image scan line by scan line as the processed film is advanced in the camera through an image frame. The optical exposure system includes an imaging lens and an auxiliary light source which can be coupled with the lens to project light into the camera through the processed film to the line scanner. An area image array scanner produces the electronic image. An electronic display is mounted on the outside of the camera, and the image capture system is operable when unexposed film is loaded in the camera to produce an electronic image of a scene before, concurrently with, or after the optical exposure system produces a latent image of the scene in the film, the electronic image being displayable on the electronic display.
