A vacuum cleaner has a handle(8) on the housing (3) top side arranged so that a mean handle section is intersected by a straight line running through the centre of gravity of the cleaner, whose position is defined by the intersection of the large vertical plane with the small vertical plane at right angles to it. The handle is parallel to the large vertical plane. The contour of the top side of the handle is a uniform continuation of the contour of the housing's top side. The underside of the handle is semicircular. The handle extends over a hollow (9) formed in the housing.
