[origin: WO9702873A1] A personal golf performance system PGPS comprises an electronic score card (1) with a user interface with a display device (D) and a keyboard device (T) together with a personal data module (10) preferably in the form of an electronic smart card for transferring data to and from the score card (1) which is used, amongst other things, for recording the score for a golf game and calculating the adjusted handicap for the player after the completion of the game. The personal performance system PGPS together with a central golf performance system CGPS form part of a recording and monitoring system RMS for golf, assigned to a specific club or course. The central performance system CGPS comprises a data processing device (15) and is used for updating the personal performance system PGPS via the personal data module (10). The central performance system CGPS records and monitors data for the players and the game, and checks the calculated and adjusted handicaps, in addition to storing information on the course and the golf club's members. A method is specified for use of the personal performance system PGPS and the recording and monitoring system RMS.
