[origin: DE19617474A1] The invention concerns an orbital sander (9, 110, 210) with a drive shaft (18, 124, 224) which is rotatably mounted in a housing (12, 112, 212) and, via an eccentric pin (20, 126, 226), imparts an orbital movement to a grinding disc (10, 118, 268) which is resiliently connected to the housing (12, 112, 212) via at least one oscillating element (23, 138, 238). The orbital sander can be converted into a rough-grinding apparatus in that a preferably orbicular grinding disc (118) can be coupled in a rotationally rigid manner to the eccentric end of the drive shaft (18, 124, 224), preferably to the eccentric pin (20, 126, 226), in an eccentrically offset manner such that the grinding disc can be driven in a centrally rotating manner by the drive shaft (18, 124, 224) and uncoupled from the at least one oscillating element (23, 138, 238).
