Abstract (en)
[origin: WO9746398A1] A method for manufacturing a spine binder of plastic to hold together a stack of pages, consisting of a spine and integral, spaced fingers extending away from it in loops, employs an injection-moulding process. In a first step of the process, two half-moulds (201, 203) of an injection-moulding tool are pressed together, with a space substantially corresponding to the shape of the spine binder remaining between them. In a second step of the process, a mass of a plastic moulding compound that is flexible after cooling is injected through one or more runners provided in at least one half-mould (201). In a third step of the process, the half-moulds (201, 203) are separated, and in a fourth step, the spine binder is removed from the injection-moulding tool. By this method, spine binders can be manufactured in rapid cycle with highly variable geometry without producing waste as in punching operations.
