[origin: EP0843981A1] The mattress cover is woven on a flat loom or on a circular loom with the weave pattern varied depending on the position on the mattress. The centre section (18) is woven with a minimum of flexibility while the adjacent sections (20,22) have maximum flexibility. The end sections have minimum flexibility. The degree of flexibility is designed to suit the stresses during normal use ie. the greater wear danger from the head and feet of the user. For a force of 5 N the degree of flexibility of the outer sections is 17 to 86% for length and 32 to 39% for width while the middle section has a flexibility of 10 to 80% for length and 30 to 38% for width, to give the optimum woven strength of the cover. The material is selected as a mixture for optimum strength and comfort.
