[origin: EP0845766A2] The system incorporates a large number of vehicles (1) travelling between stopping points. A first display unit and/or loudspeaker (5) at one or more stopping points provides information from a data source (3). A second such unit (8) in one or more of the vehicles has a receiver (10) for the data from a transmitter (9) at the stopping point when the vehicle is within the range of the transmitter. A data-storage unit (13) can be provided at the source, transmitting when requested and with the vehicle in range. A further transmitter can be provided in the vehicle, working with a receiver at the stopping point, and transmission can be optical signals or infra-red rays.
