[origin: EP0845843A1] A telephone line protector with a lightning arrester cell (10) incorporates an elastic vane (40) which is retained under pressure, and a fusible membrane (50) designed to hold the vane under tension and release it when the cell (10) reaches a pre-set temperature. The fusible membrane preferably operates by traction and may be made from a thermoplastic material such as polycarbonate. The elastic vane may be made from an electrically-conducting material and interacts with contacts (42, 44). The vane can show when it is at the end of its working life.
