Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0846834A2] The impact driven borer has a reciprocating piston (3) which forces the head (2) of the borer through the ground. The borer is connected to a supply line via a flexible joint which has a ring shaped space for a transmitter (11) for locating the head and steering the borer. The ring shaped space is under a gap between the back of the borer housing and the front of the sheath protecting the supply line. The transmitter is embedded in plastics or silicone rubber. The transmitter components are arranged side by side in the cylindrical space to minimise axial length.
