[origin: WO9707870A1] A filter for subterranean environments has an inner support member (10; 72), a filter body (12) containing a filter medium disposed around the inner support member, and at least one end cap (14, 16; 76) welded to the inner support member and connected to a lengthwise end of the filter body. The weld (70) is substantially free of martensite. A method for welding a filter includes weld bead which is substantially free of martensite.
