[origin: WO9708908A1] Described is a communications system with cordless units (1, 2, 3, 4) connected into a communications network (7), each unit having at least one base station (11-13, 21-23, 31, 32, 41). The identification of each cordless terminal (8) is stored in the corresponding system unit (1, 2, 3, 4) which acts as the home unit for that terminal. A test device (15, 25, 35, 45) in each system unit (1, 2, 3, 4) enables the possibility or admissibility of connecting that system unit (1, 2, 3, 4) up with a particular terminal (8) to be checked. The system units (1, 2, 3, 4) are also connected to a network (6, 61) which provides a connectionless service designed to allow data to be exchanged between units as a function of the results of checks carried out by the test devices (15, 25, 35, 45).
