Abstract (en)
The strapping material (14), particularly a thermoplastic tape, is supplied from a store to a strapping machine which wraps it round a package. The machine has a drum in two segments (29,30) with a gap (22) between the segments through which the tape passes. The tape is tensioned around the package (13) and sealed by a sealing unit (15). At least one of the segments (30) can be moved relative to the other (29) to narrow the gap, forming a clamp for the tape at the end of its movement. Preferably, the movable drum segment can be moved into the clamping position solely by the tension force of the strapping tape passing around the drum and moves against spring force.

Bei einer Vorrichtung zum Umreifen von Packstücken mit einem Umreifungsmittel (14), welches von einem Umreifungsmittelvorrat in einen das Packstück umgebenden Umreifungsmittelführungskanal (12) ein- und durch diesen hindurch einem Umreifungsmittel-Verschlußaggregat (15) zugeführt wird und wobei Mittel zum Straffen des Umreifungsmittels um das Packstück herum vorgesehen sind, die eine drehantreibbare Spanntrommel (19) umfassen, welche einen diametralen Umreifungsmittel-Durchgangsspalt (22) und zwei durch den Umreifungsmittel-Durchgansgspalt voneinander distanzierte Trommelsegmente (29,30) umfaßt, auf deren Umfangsflächen das Umreifungsmittel zum Spannen aufwickelbar ist, besteht eine erfindungsgemäße Besonderheit darin, daß wenigstens eines der beiden Trommelsegmente relativ zu dem anderen Trommelsegment spaltverengend beweglich ist und am Ende seiner Bewegung zusammen mit dem anderen Trommelsegment eine Umreifungsmittelklemme (40) ausbildet. Dadurch entsteht eine von Umschlingungsreibung nicht abhängige, kraftschlüssige spanntrommelintegrierte Umreifungsmittelklemme, mit deren Hilfe bereits bei kleinen Verdrehwinkeln der Spanntrommel hohe Zugkräfte im Umreifungsmittel aufgebaut werden können. <IMAGE>
