[origin: EP0847923A2] The device comprises a head plate (22) which covers a sealing unit and has thermoplastic strip, which passes through a guide channel surrounding the package to be strapped. Immediately in front of and behind the head plate, bearing faces (30) are provided in the guide direction for a strapping edge. Between these, the whole strapping sealing unit, including the head plate and strapping clamps (25) can be moved out of the strapping plane (31) in relation to the bearing faces. Preferably, the sealing unit with head plate and clamps can be swivelled about an axis (43) extending parallel to the strapping plane and at a distance from the sealing unit, particularly in the opposite direction to but on the same axis as the strapping guide (26).
