[origin: WO9709217A2] Forecast delays (E(V<n>k)) are found for track-bound vehicles (Fn) on the basis of predetermined routes and sections. A gradient descent process is used to minimise a target function ( PSI ) which quantifies the various aspects of causes of delay or aspects leading to the need to control the individual vehicles (Fn). The gradient descent process provides control values (M<n>k) by means of which the individual vehicles (Fn) are controlled.
