[origin: DE19533214A1] Proposed is an electrolytic method for the production of sodium and aluminium chloride in an electrolytic cell with an aluminium anode and a sodium cathode separated from each other by a sodium-ion-conducting solid electrolyte. In the anode region, molten electrolyte containing essentially sodium tetrachloroaluminate is electrolysed, the aluminium chloride produced being evaporated out of the cell and the sodium produced being tapped off from the cathode region.
