[origin: EP0849010A1] The apparatus is for the cold-rolling of small thin-walled pipes and rods on a pilger mill with grooved rolls in a roll stand moving back and forth, where the rolled material is rotated and transported forward at least at one of the two roll stand dead-centre positions. For rotation and forward transport of the rolled material there is a transport unit (4) which is located directly after the roll stand. This unit grips the rolled material along its circumference. Also claimed is a process for operating the above apparatus, in which the rolled material emerging from the roll stand is pushed into the transport unit.
