[origin: EP0849011A1] A hollow blank (28) is expanded and calibrated in a forming tool, and cut to form two hollow profiles with facing widened ends. The blank is expanded while the forming tool is open, and is simultaneously upset to form a rotary-symmetrical bulging hollow profile, by an axial pressure, which is applied from outside to at least one of the two blank ends (32,48). The hollow profile is then cut centrally through the bulge, in a direction at right angles to the longitudinal direction of the profile.
