[origin: EP0849369A2] In a process for coiling or open coil laying of steel rod or wire, the rolled rod or wire is cooled, before coiling or coil laying, from the rolling temperature to the transformation region as defined by the Ar3 or Ar1 line of the time-temperature-transformation diagram corresponding to the steel type to ensure that, immediately after cooling, the rolled rod or wire transforms almost isothermally from the austenitic phase into the ferritic or pearlitic phase (or into the bainitic phase if required) uniformly over its entire length and cross-section before, during or after the coiling or coil laying operation.
