[origin: EP0850752A1] The workpiece (48) for the press passes through press stages (2-6) positioned behind each other and which share the same drive mechanism (50). A transfer arrangement (41) conveys the workpiece. The drive mechanism has a drive shaft (54) divided into sections (55-58) each of which has at least one press stage. Each press stage has a ram (27-31) driven by the drive shaft. A phase displacement or displacements can be altered by means of one or more adjustments (60-62).
