[origin: EP0851039A1] Stainless steel contains by weight 0-0.03% carbon, 0-2% manganese, 0-0.5% silicon, 8-9% nickel, 17-18% chromium, 0-0.4% molybdenum, 3-3.5% copper, 0-0.03% nitrogen, less than 0.01% sulphur and less than 0.04% phosphorous, the rest being iron and impurities. Also claimed are wire made of this steel, less than 2 mm. in diameter and with tensile strength over 2100 MPa, also heating a preformed wire of such steel with a diameter of at least 5 mm. and fast-quenching it to produce an austenitic structure, then cold-drawing it to a diameter below 2 mm.
