[origin: EP0851059A1] A drying cylinder of a machine for the production of a continuous web of material, especially of sanitary paper, has a casing with fins (7) and grooves (9) running circumferentially on its inner surface, the fins being narrower than the grooves. Preferably, the boundary walls (11, 13) of fins and grooves run parallel to each other and stand upright relative to the cylinder's circumferential surface (15). The fin height (h) is greater than the casing thickness (d), both measured from the groove base (17) which is formed as a cylinder surface. Preferably, there are three suction tubes in each groove.
