[origin: EP0851417A1] The medium consists of a substrate (10), a conducting layer (14) and a recording layer (15). The recording layer may be made amorphous or crystalline according to the currents applied from a micropoint (20) thus effecting the writing process. The material used for the recording layer is photoconducting and the micropoint is used with a current measuring instrument (24) to measure the resistance of the amorphous and crystalline zones with and without light from a luminous source (26). The ratio of the resistances with and without light are very different for the amorphous and crystalline materials used and enable them to be clearly identified.
