[origin: DE19536124A1] In an exhaust manifold (10) for the exhaust system of an internal combustion engine, with a pipe (12) forming the inner side of a manifold and having at least one stub (14 to 17) for connecting to at least one combustion chamber of the engine and with a heat insulating layer (18) fitted around the pipe (12), it is proposed that the heat insulating layer (18) be made from a very fast-curing moulding compound comprising a high-temperature-resistant binder, a particulate component of a porous material and a fibre or needle-shaped reinforcing component and that the heat insulating layer (18) as such form the outer surface of the exhaust manifold (10), so that the exhaust manifold (10) is able to withstand the hard conditions in the engine compartment of a motor vehicle, has a low heat capacity and nevertheless has an outstanding insulating effect.
