[origin: EP0853224A1] A heat exchanger has several pairs of plates. Each plate forming a pair (7) is joined to the adjacent plate by a welded seam around the edge. Pairs of plates are assembled into stacks. One fluid medium flows through the gap between the pairs and the other fluid medium flows between the pairs. The plate stacks (4) sit within a housing (1). The housing has one or more inlets (11) and one or more outlets (13,14) for the medium flowing between the plates. Each individual plate has an inlet (7a) and an outlet (7b) linked to the adjacent pairs of plates, and which are sealed against the other medium.
