Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0853228A1] In an artillery shell, the outer surface of the cylindrical section (2) of the shell casing forms the trailing section of the outer surface of the mantle (1). The centering system (5,9) to take and hold the solid shot body (6) is within the pointed end (3) of the shell. The pointed end (3) and/or the sealing base body (15) are of injection moulded thermoplastic material, of high heat resistance, with glass fibre reinforcement. Also claimed is a process where the pointed end (3) and cylindrical section (2) are initially injection moulded with anchored casing ridges (4). In a second step, the solid shot payload (6) is inserted into the casing through the open trailing end into the centering structure (5,9) at the shell point (3). In a final step, the open trailing end is closed and sealed by the insertion of a base body (15).
