Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0853229A1] The driving band (7), for an artillery shell, is in a guide groove (8) round the cylindrical section (2) of the shell casing. The driving band (7) is bonded in place with the inserted base sealing body (10) through openings (9) in the cylindrical section (2) of the casing. The base sealing body (10) and the driving band (7) are formed, during the initial stage of shell prodn., by the injection of a plastics into the cylindrical casing section (2) through the open trailing end. The driving band (7) is of a thermoplastic material, with high temperature resistance, with glass fibre reinforcement.
