[origin: EP0853265A1] The timepiece uses a timekeeping unit (1) and a charging unit (8) comprising a photovoltaic cell (9), a voltage elevator (10,11,TR1,TR3) operated by impulse signal and an accumulator (7). If the timepiece is kept in the dark for a very long period the accumulator becomes completely discharged and on reemergence the photovoltaic cell does not produce a high enough voltage for restarting. An additional oscillator (15) is provided which is able to operate at the photovoltaic cell output voltage and switch two transistors (TR3,TR4) at it's own frequency. This operates the voltage elevator (10,11) and charges the accumulator (7) to a sufficient voltage for normal recovery.
